River Vessel - Landing Craft Tank

 September 10, 2018

The vessel is not only sailing on the sea but also a river, that's why we have what so-called river vessel. Most of the river vessel is a vessel that has a low level of water draft. They are designed to have maximum 3 meters draft. This vessel has such a design because of the structure of the river which usually very shallow and only allows small boats to sail on of it. That's why most of the time, we can only see a vessel made from wood and the size is relatively small compared with other vessels.

Most of the land at the river area doesn't have a good infrastructure. Because river vessel has is very shallow, most of the vessel especially steel vessel and any other big vessel cannot sail on it. This is the main reasons why there is no development of the infrastructure of a harbor in those areas because they do not need it in the first place. However, this is making the economy flows slowly in those areas because only limited resources can be carried on a wooden vessel or any small vessel.

Knowing this opportunity, a lot of vessels is modified to serve the river area. This vessel we know with the word shallow water draft vessel. A wooden vessel cannot carry a heavy-duty or a liquid cargo in an efficient way, therefore, a small modified steel vessel was made. Several of the steel vessels than was made for shallow water such as self-propelled oil barge, dumb barge, self-propelled barge, landing craft tank, ferry, and others.

With these vessels, we could extend the goods that we can carry through the sea. The next problem is this vessel is a lot heavier than the wooden vessel that usually being used in a river. People cannot pull them manually with labor so that the vessel could berth without any infrastructure necessary. This is where the ramp door modification idea is popped-up. Most of the shallow water draft steel vessel is equipped with a ramp-door to reach the edge of the land. That's why you will most likely see a ramp-door in any of the river vessels such as landing craft tank, ferry, barges, self-propelled oil barge, and other.

Ratson Shipbuilding is one of the few shipyards that are specializing themselves to build a river vessel or a shallow water draft vessel. Ratson serves the needs of this type of vessel and eager to serve any of the archipelago countries that might need this vessel. River vessel especially a landing craft tank will help to transport so many things from island to island and help the economy grow. River vessel is one of the investments that every archipelago countries need to consider, especially those who have logistics and shipping problem and doesn't have good infrastructure for harbor as a berthed place of the vessel.
